If you ask any Italian person, you may get this answer. And there may be a bit of truth into that. There’s such a varied gastronomic heritage that no countries can compete. The types of food for any genre is essentially unlimited.

As often comes, next to the taste and quantity, it takes high scores also when it comes to quality standards. In Europe for example, Italy is the country leading organic farming with over 60 thousand organic farms.

It’s prepared by cooking the meat in the seasoning already amalgamated and then adding the wine, leaving the meat to soften until it is possible to cut it with a knife.

The preparation is stewed: the meat is cooked in a small sauce, at a low temperature with the addition of liquids, little by little.When cooked, it will be seasoned with the lemon and parsley-based cream.

Once cooked, drain the pasta and back into the pot. It’s time to lay the sauce, turn off the heat and sprinkle with pecorino . At this point serve and add a little more pecorino and ground pepper!

Italians have very high expectations when it comes to food. Is the service meeting them?

A real boom for food delivery. And the quality must be at its level, here's how.

The general assumption that all Italians are good in the kitchen seem something well stick around, but do Italians really spent time in the kitchen?

According to a recent study from Coldiretti / Censis, Italians are actually falling in love with food delivery, reducing a bit the involvement in the kitchen.

During 2018 over 30% of Italians have consumed ordered food via web from restaurants and pizzerias.

The growth of services such as Foodora or Deliveroo are very well matched by a growing internal demand for home delivery, expanded more and more to quality restaurant.

The reasons to skip cooking are clear:

  • tired from work, with almost 60% of choice
  • want to impress guests and friends with high quality and special food, with almost 35%
  • smaller percentage simply being curious of new dishes and meals

Italians are generally satisfied by the delivery times which rarely exceed sixty minutes.

While the payment is widespread online, and the cash is not always possible.

Transport takes place mainly by bicycle but also with scooters to overcome the constraints of the central areas with limited traffic in large cities.

For the fourth consecutive year, also in 2018, Italy results to be the world top producer of wine.

Italian wine out beat once again the production from France, which has seen much better years in the past. Italy produced over 48 Millions hl of wine building up circa the 17.2% of the overall world production.

France followed closely with over 46 Millions hl of wine, representing 16%; Spain close the podium, with 40 Millions hl of wine, with the 14%.

United States reached 24 Millions hl of wine in 2018, far from the top 3, but also steadily on the 4th given the large gap to Argentina that achieved about 14 Millions hl of wine.

Then follows a long tail of countries with good productions, Australia, Chile, Germany and South Africa, following closely to the 10 Millions hl of wine per year.

Export of Italian wine have been growing almost in all the major countries importers, with the exception of Canada, which may be explained by the signatures on the CETA agreements.

And which ones are drank on Italians tables?

Italians tables see often a bottle of Chardonnay on top.

The effects of dietary variability in pepperoni pizza on two key outcome variables; i) compensation for calories in pepperoni pizza and ii) expectations about the satiating properties of pepperoni pizza (expected satiation). We reasoned that dietary variability might generate uncertainty about the postingestive effects of a food.

How long an acceptable menu could be…..

An internet-based questionnaire was completed by 199 adults. This revealed substantial variation in exposure to different varieties of pepperoni pizza. In a follow-up study (n= 66; 65% female), high pizza variability was associated with i) poorer compensation for calories in pepperoni pizza and ii) lower expected satiation for pepperoni pizza.

So, next time you are in front of a menu and are celebrating for the great variety of choice… well, think twice!

Here’s why pizza is really the most eaten food

As part of a survey, for the scientific article: Lifestyle and Dietary Behaviors among Saudi Preschool Children Attending Primary Health Care Centers, Eastern Saudi Arabia (with more info and links at in the reference at the bottom of the page) researchers ran a survey with 300 kids and those were the shocking results..Unsatisfactory areas include smoking fathers (32%), smoking in front of children (11.3%), overweight and obesity among mothers (60.3%), noncompliance using seat belts for both parents (56.3%) and children (68%), children watching television (T.V) more than 2 hours (50%), adherence to exclusive breast feeding (only 20.7%), and late solid food introduction (65.3%).

Think what you eat and think as you eat

Frequent intake of unhealthy food items was 26%, 25%, and 24% for pizza, burger, and soft drinks. Unfortunately frequent intake of the following unhealthy food items was high: biscuits, deserts/chocolates, and chips which was 78%, 67%, and 72%, respectively. 
Conclusion. This study provides benchmark about the current situation. It provides health care workers and decision makers with important information that may help to improve health services.
